Colin Mello

Coach Mello is the Technical Director and an 18&U/16&U Head Coach for San Jose WPF. As a player, Colin was was a 2-Time NCAA All-American at UC Irvine. As a Junior at UCI he led the prestigious MPSF Conference in scoring. And as a senior, captained the first and only UCI team to reach the MPSF Championship game. Following UCI, he played professionally in Spain and Australia, in addition to representing the USA in the World University Games in 2009. After playing, Colin began his coaching career starting with several clubs and high schools in Orange County. He also served as an Assistant Coach at his alma mater, UC Irvine, for one season. After moving to Northern California in 2011, he began coaching at Stanford Water Polo Club (18&U and 14&U) and at Sacred Heart Prep. Colin is currently the Head Coach at Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose and has won CCS Division 1 Titles in 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016. Coach Mello also led Bellarmine to it’s first ever CCS Open Division Title in 2018. 

Caleb Carlson

Caleb is an 18&U and 16&U Head Coach for San Jose WPF. Caleb began his coaching career at the Bishops School in LaJolla, CA while attending college in 1995.  He then moved to Fairfield, CA and became the head coach at Fairfield High School from 1999 to 2003, winning 3 league championships.  During that same time he co-directed Suisun Bay Water Polo Club.  Coach Caleb was selected as Head coach of the Junior and Cadet Central California Zone teams from 2001 – 2005, helping develop many of US Water Polo’s top athletes.  After moving to San Jose in 2005, he began coaching the Pacific Zone teams where he helped the Junior team win a National Championship while serving as assistant coach at the National Age Group Championships.  He was the Pacific Zone 12th grade under coach from 2006 - 2013 where he was selected as USAWP ODP coach of the year in 2013.  Caleb is currently the Varsity Head Coach at Valley Christian High School in San Jose. 

Ben Vierra

Coach Vierra serves as the Age Group Director overseeing the development of coaches and athletes in the 14&U, 12&U, and 10&U age groups. He also serves as the 14&U Head Coach. Ben brings more than 12 years of coaching experience to the job. He has coached for Live Oak, Independence, Monta Vista High School and now currently at Mitty High School as the Varsity Head Coach. He was the water polo director at DeAnza Cupertino Aquatics from 2009 to 2017. Coach Vierra has taken his passion for water polo to the national level and is involved in the USA Water Polo Olympic Development Program, where he is the Head Coach of the Pacific Zone. He has also coached a variety of club teams, qualifying and competing in several Junior Olympic tournaments.
